College Life

In Daily Life, Inside My Head on September 30, 2008 at 1:09 AM

College life is totally different from high school. I could just roll out of bed, get dressed, and walk to class. It takes a lot of discipline to just wake up and tell yourself to get ready before you’re late. I would go to the lecture hall around 15-25 minutes early to get a good seat in the lecture hall. No one likes a seat all the way in the corner super far away from the professor. Also, people are really serious about homework and study here. Well … maybe only in UCSD. On the weekdays, you see lots of people walk around after class around 6PM, just hanging out doing whatever. Once it hits Friday, the whole campus is like a ghost town. I would assume that most of them are off campus somewhere having fun on a Friday night, but they’re actually in their dorms starting their homework already. Walking around people’s suites, most people are either on their bed reading their textbook, or on their table doing homework. Saturday and Sunday are no exceptions. I guess us San Francisco kids aren’t really that crazy on homework.

I had two classes and one discussion today. Calculus at 8AM in the morning is always a drag. I woke up at 7AM to get ready, then walked to my class. After class, I went to Oceanview Terrace to eat breakfast, then to Oceanview Lounge to turn in my form. I went back to my apartment to do some DOC reading that I didn’t do. I read about 20 something pages when Betty called me to go eat. I’m always hungry, so I went. We went to Oceanview Terrace again to eat. Betty had to go to Price Center to get money for her minifridge, so we walked to Price Center for her to use the ATM. Seward was going to meet her up, so I went to my next class. DOC is always boring. Today, they were arguing with the professor about different kinds of discrimination. After class, I went to meet up Angela to eat again. Went to bookstore to buy my book, then Angela walked me to my discussion. I waited for my discussion to start while Angela waited for Betty to get out of class at the same building. Discussion sucks. After discussion, Diana and I went to Angela’s to meet them up to watch movie. At around 6, they went to Canyon Vista to eat. I went to drop off my stuff at my apartment. We got to the theatre at around 7, just in time for Eagle Eye. It was so sick! Maybe I’ll talk about it in the next post. After Eagle Eye, we went to watch Lakeview Terrace. That movie was alright. Samuel L. Jackson made a really good bad guy. He was pretty creepy too. Got out of the theatre at around 12:05AM, then back to campus at around 12:35AM. I got back to my place at 12:55AM, so I’m good. Haha. I don’t know about Angela, Betty, or Diana though. :|

Be Yourself

In Uncategorized on September 22, 2008 at 12:09 AM

College is a place where you meet new people. No one really knows you on campus. You can act, talk, and walk like whoever you like. What better person can you be than yourself? I don’t think you need to change yourself in order to meet new people. If you act different towards new people, they won’t like you for you. Also, keep your old friends close. You don’t have to try so hard to stick your head out to meet new people that you drift away from your old friends. Don’t try to go to every event to be cool. Thanks.

UCSD: Day 1 & 2

In Uncategorized on September 20, 2008 at 2:23 AM

Day 1: Woke up at 3am, got in the car, and started going. I tried to sleep in the car until like 7. I got at most 15 minutes of sleep in the car. Stopped off somewhere near Lost Hills to grab some Carl’s Jr for breakfast. Kept driving. Got suck in LA traffic for an hour or two. Stopped at Dog Run rest area. Got to UCSD at around 12:30pm after driving around La Jolla trying to find UCSD for like 30 minutes. Spent the next 30 minutes trying to find my stupid college. Got there half an hour early for checkin so waited for the checkin place to open. I was second in line for my keys! Got into my apartment, which looked a lot like Edward’s house. Unpacked and put everything to where they belong. Met my roommate when he moved in. He’s a South Korean transfer student called Hoyong Lee. Called up Angela and went to her dorm to help her unload and unpack with her sister and Betty. After her dorm, we went to Leona’s car and drove to Betty’s dorm to help her unload and unpack. Rearranged her room to the way Betty liked it since she was the first one there, then went to Walmart. THEY bought a crapload of stuff, but I only bought a couple. Drove back to drop off the stuff, then went to set up Angela and Betty’s computers. Went to Betty’s dorm to fix her bed sheets, then went back to my apartment to sleep. One hour of sleep = headache for two hours.

Day 2: I slept for 6 hours. That didn’t make up for the one hour I slept the previous night. Woke up at 7 for orientation. I didn’t even know why I woke up until I realized my alarm went off. Went to Peterson Hall with my roommate to eat breakfast. Lecture. Broke up into orientation group. Fast forward until 5pm. Done with orientation. Went to Betty’s dorm to meet up Betty and Vinson Chen. Messed with her webcam, then went to Price Center so I can eat Subway. I was starving like crazy! Met Seward, Angela, and their Lowell friends there. They didn’t know PC closes at 7pm, so they decided to go to Allen’s dorm to eat instant noodles. Chilled there for a bit, then went to TMAC to take advantage of the game room. Played charades until they kicked us out. Hung out at the corner (just like old times) for a while. Everyone decided to go back to their dorms to rest. Walked Betty to her dorm. Hung out watching Youtube videos for two and a half hours. Haha. Time sure flies. Walked back to my dorm at 2AM. Here I am now!

I didn’t know I’d feel so crappy the first two days. No one knows me. I don’t know them. I don’t want to act all desperate looking for friends, so I just hang with my old ones. I’m sure I’ll make new friends. Haha. I also miss the people and the environment back home. Gosh, I thought that it wouldn’t happen to me when I go to college. I guess it was inevitable. Okay. Gotta go! Webcamming with Angela and Betty.

Last Last Supper

In Uncategorized on September 18, 2008 at 1:03 AM

Yesterday, I had my “Last Supper” with “the group”. Today, I guess, was the “Last Last Supper”. It wasn’t much. All we did was go to “Kam Po”, our new cheap restaurant, to eat a regular dinner.  It was just hanging out and spending time with what was left of the group before the rest of the UC students left. Giving the last few hugs, (Annie! You hugging freak! Three goodbye hugs!?) I felt really bad. It felt like I left already and I’m missing them. I drank my last can of coke and ate my last bag of hot cheetos. I didn’t say goodbye to my Jean Parker kids because I was only their leader for a bit more than two weeks. I only said goodbye to my new favorite kid, Samanatha. :) I ate my last plate of chinese food before I left for a place where chinese food might be rare. Cha Seew Rice! After the supper and the hugs, I barted home for a family dinner. I got there just in time to be able to eat dinner with just my mom. (My brothers and dad just finished eating) After a speedy dinner, My brother, his girlfriend, and I went to Gordon’s house to play Mah Jong, hang out, and watch Shutter with the rest of the church college group. I missed hanging out with them. I’ll miss everyone.

See ya, San Francisco. It’s been great running around your streets.

Countdown

In Uncategorized on September 17, 2008 at 12:27 AM

I’m counting down to the time that I leave for UCSD. Ever since I got accepted to UCSD, I’ve been counting down the days until I go to college. Who wouldn’t want to leave a fun-exhausted city, where parents try to control your every move, for a new city filled with new experiences and freedom? For some reason, all that’s changed. I don’t want to leave here anymore. People that I thought I wouldn’t miss because I’ve been with them too long are now on my potential miss list. I feel pretty bummed out that today was my last night hanging out with everyone. Today was also my last day walking in Chinatown to the bart station at night. It feels like I haven’t done everything yet before I go.

I still havent played basketball with Lisa yet. I still owe her a basketball game. I still have to a reunion with Dennis. I haven’t gotten to having serious talks with Linda for a long time. There’s a lot more, but that would make this blog entry too long. Maybe I’ll get to them with you guys during holiday breaks.

For the people that I hang with, I’ll be missing you guys. Have fun in UCD, UCSC, Lowell/Gal (There you go, Sabrina) and even city.

I think everyone is in this picture.

Blair Witch Project

In Daily Life, Inside My Head on September 16, 2008 at 11:37 AM

Another day, another movie watched at Angela and Betty’s house. This time, we watched the “Blair Witch Project”. I heard people say that after watching this movie, you never want to go camping again. I didn’t really take what they said seriously because honestly, what can this movie possibly have that will make you not want to camp anymore? I didn’t even know what I was getting myself into when I decided to watch it. Even though I was asleep for the first half of the movie, it still spooked me. I can see why people said they got scared of camping after watching this. This movie was kind of weird though. It has no parts that made me jump, but it still spooked me. It’s one of those movies where you watch it and you’ll get chills. This movie is a must watch before/during camping!

Blair Witch Project

Blair Witch Project

Three film students travel to Maryland to make a student film about a local urban legend… The Blair Witch. The three went into the woods on a two day hike to find the Blair Witch, and never came back. One year later, the students film and video was found in the woods. The footage was compiled and made into a movie. The Blair Witch Project.

After watching the movie, we decided to mess with the Ouija board. Oooooh. I guess we weren’t done with scary stuff. At around midnight, Kenny picks up the Ouija board and decides he wants to play. After much debating from Betty about not wanting to be haunted, we all decided to go outside to the hill on Jones and Vallejo(?) to play. It was so darn cold outside. We asked the board various questions, but the planchette wouldn’t move. I guess it didn’t really work. The planchette did move a little bit (like 1 cm), but it could’ve been the players’ hands were cold, the wind, their laps, or pressing the planchette too hard. So much for talking to “spirits”. Haha.

Ouija Board

In Inside My Head on September 15, 2008 at 12:06 AM

I was talking to Angela and Betty about possibly playing the Ouija board that I gave Angela for her birthday just a first. I got kinda curious about what it does and if it was true, so I decided to search google for stories about Ouija board experiences. Stupid stories! After reading them, I do not want to mess with the stupid cardboard game. I don’t want any spirits haunting me while walking home at night! According to information on the web, it says playing it will open doors to paranormal and spiritual beings to come into our world. Reading it more and more, it said it was connected to the Devil. Who would want to play with the stupid board after reading such things? I really wanna play, but I don’t wanna get haunted or anything. People know (especially Betty) that I’m scared of ghosts and all those crap. I won’t even take a shower when it’s anywhere near midnight. Anyone brave enough to play?

Horseback Riding

In Daily Life on September 14, 2008 at 1:12 AM

I never knew they had a stable for horseback riding in Daly City until about a week ago. What a perfect present for someone that’s been dying to go horseback riding! Me and Betty went there for her birthday today. It was my present to her obviously. It was a broken down looking barn/stable, but I guess that’s how it is for all barns and stables. The person that greeted us was pretty nice. He assigned us the horses and wrangler to us. My horse was named Scarface! Oooooh! Scary! Haha. Betty’s horse was named Cheyenne. Going down the mountain was pretty scary. I kept imagining my horse slipping, then tumbling down the mountain, which made it worse. My horse was soooo slow! I kept kicking him like I was supposed to, but it just wouldn’t move faster. Good thing this nice lady behind me helped. After we got down the mountain, we were on the beach. That was the best part of the ride because we got to see dolphins and ride on flat ground. Finally, my horse was 2nd or 3rd out of four horses! After the beach ride, we turned around and went back up the mountain, which was a lot better because I didn’t look down. The whole ride took a little over and hour, and was pretty fun. (And scary) I’ll post a picture when Betty uploads ‘em on Facebook or something. :) Here’s some stock pictures I found on the internet.

Burn After Reading

In Daily Life, Inside My Head on September 10, 2008 at 11:17 PM

So my friends and I went to a screening of “Burn After Reading” today. After an hour and a half, I came out of the theater thinking, “What the hell?”. This has got to be the weirdest, funkiest, not-making-sense movie I have ever watched. The movie had a few laughs here and there. Brad Pitt also gets punched in the nose, which is quite hilarious to watch. This has got to be his worse role in his career though.

Nose Bleed for Brad

Nose Bleed for Brad

This movie made no sense at all. When the movie started, it showed two characters. Then two more came, and another came, and anoth– what the hell?! I couldn’t even follow who was who, and what was going on! I started picking it up when it got close to an hour. Clever funny? Maybe a little. Stupid funny? Quite a bit.

I highly do not recommend you to watch this movie if you expect something out of it. Only watch it if you have money to throw away.

Mainstream vs Underground

In Inside My Head on September 10, 2008 at 7:36 AM

Mainstream music versus “underground” music. Honestly, I like underground music more than mainstream music. The songs on the radio nowadays are pointless and repetitive. When I listen to the song, I usually listen to the beat. If the beat is good, I’ll continue with the song’s lyrics. If they’re both decent or better, I’ll keep it. Songs on the radio usually has good beats, but the lyrics SUCK! The artists all talk about the same things: Drugs, guns, gangs, etc. The only artists that are worthy to be on my playlist and are also on the radio are Kanye West, Chris Brown, T.I, and Lil’ Wayne. Yes, I said T.I. and Lil’ Wayne. Even though they go on about drugs and guns and all, some of their songs actually have meaning to it. Give these following songs a shot.

T.I. – No Matter What
“Avoid insanity manage to conquer
every obstacle
make impossible possible
even when winnings illogical
losing’s still far from optional”

Lil’ Wayne – Tie My Hands

I, knock on the door,
hope isn’t home,
fates not around, the lucks all gone,
don’t ask me whats wrong, ask me whats right
and ima tell you whats life

Underground music usually has more meaning in their songs. I’m assuming they’re doing it for free, so they don’t really care about what people think when they actually sing/rap about what’s on their minds. What am I saying? It’s too late at night for me to think straight. I’m gonna stop here.

Felt like adding a picture of Chris B. here.

Saw I

In Daily Life, Inside My Head on September 9, 2008 at 7:53 AM

Well I got home an hour after midnight because I watched Saw I at Angela & Betty’s house today. Although I did watch Saw III, this was my first time watching Saw I. Tomorrow might be Saw II, which I’m hoping that we would watch earlier. In my opinion, Saw III was better than Saw I. I’m not gonna spoil it for those of you that haven’t watched it yet, but I thought Saw III was much “smarter” and gory than Saw I. Jigsaw looked even looked better in Saw III than Saw I! I’m still amazed at how the movie producers could think of so much sick games and possible scenarios for the movie. If Jigsaw was real, you have to be a really deep, sick, disgusting thinker and be able to “think ahead” like twenty thousand steps of how the victim will think in order to create those games. I wish I had a mind like that. :)

P.S. The part where Adam beat the crap out of the toy Jigsaw was priceless.

Chris B. – Flying Solo & Erased

In Daily Life, Uncategorized on September 6, 2008 at 5:53 PM

Haven’t posted music for awhile. I’m pretty sure whoever is reading this has these songs, but just in case, here you go!

Chris Brown – Flying Solo

Chris Brown – Erased

Since I’m posting already, I might as well write something. This past week was pretty annoying. I had to work at Jean Parker and look after, tutor, and teach kids. I don’t mind doing those things, but with bad kids, it kinda sucks the fun out of it. I’m not supposed to be yelling or talking too much with stitches in my mouth, but I have to in order to get the kids’ attention. I always look forward to work ending. I’m always starving. Angela and I would go eat, then go somewhere to meet everyone else to hang out. In short, 2-6PM = sucks.

Coming Home

In Inside My Head on September 4, 2008 at 8:03 AM

I love leaving the house. When I leave the house, it’s like whatever I do outside, it sure beats being inside. When I’m inside the house, all I do is walk around, find something to do, use the computer, watch TV, sleep, and be a coach potato. Leaving the house is a total different story. It opens the door to a lot of things. I could go loiter somewhere with friends, go eat somewhere, go look at things, go talk to adults, or whatever.

loi·ter intr.v. - To stand idly about; linger aimlessly.

No matter how stupid or how weird, I’d still do it. (As long as theres people with me of course) Whether it be going to Border’s just to look at books or bussing all the way to Coit Tower just ’cause, I’d still do it. My parent’s have been getting mad about me going home too late. Now I’m not gonna post something about my parents being stupid. Yes, I know I’ve been coming home at or after midnight. But that doesn’t mean I should get picked on. I know I should be respectful. I try to be, but only if I’m being treated fairly. I don’t like when people act based on personal feelings when they shouldn’t. When a job could be done by anyone, don’t make the person you dislike do it just because you dislike them. Be fair.

/Just thought I’d post something to make it look like I actually update this blog. I wonder if Jennifer Ye still reads this. If you’re reading this, toss me an IM to let me know you’re still alive. :)
